Learning in Families Together begins

The new Learning in Families Together initiative is now being delivered in 80 schools across Tasmania, helping about 8,500 students and their families.

It was great to visit Clarendon Vale Primary School today to officially launch the initiative, and see young students excited and engaged in literacy and numeracy.

Our $17.75 million targeted investment will help to lift the educational outcomes of young Tasmanians in the greatest need through greater engagement than ever before between schools, students and their families.

With the economy growing and the Budget coming back under control, the Government can invest the dividends into providing better education for Tasmanians through targeted investments like LIFT.

In line with the principles of Gonski, LIFT provides literacy and numeracy support  for  Kindergarten to Year 2 students. LIFT  caters  for children and their families with the greatest need  across the state. The program will be delivered across multiple platforms and participating schools will be provided with strategies and resources to support families to engage more fully in their children’s learning.

The program will encourage families to engage and be active in their children’s learning, provide opportunities for families to build their own skills to support their child’s learning and raise awareness of the shared responsibility of early learning between schools, family and community.

This is so important, because research tells us that when we engage family, young Tasmanians have the best start to learning.

Participating schools have been provided with a package of materials, which included information for families, engagement resources for schools and fun items for students and classrooms too.

Today’s launch also included the launch of new branding for LIFT, which includes four animals that will be used to promote and enhance engagement of the initiative in schools. A naming competition is being run for participating students, with prizes for the winners too.
