Tasmania Police will be out in force this holiday season with Operation Crossroads once again in effect to deter dangerous driving behaviours.
Our commitment to increase police numbers means there will be more police on our roads, so if you do the wrong thing, you are more likely to be caught and have to face the consequences.
While the last Christmas period saw no fatalities, there were five serious injuries as a result of crashes on our roads. This means the holiday period was ruined not just for those people, but also their family and friends.
It is a fact that there are more people on the roads at this time of year and I strongly urge all road users to be aware and accountable for their behaviour at all times, especially when consuming alcohol.
With alcohol a contributing factor in around 20 per cent of crashes (according to data from the last five years) the message is clear- if you’re having a few drinks, don’t ruin your life, and potentially others, by drinking and driving over the limit.
Operation Crossroads will run from Friday 22 December 2017 to Monday 1 January 2018.
