Launch of Neighbourhood House framework

The Neighbourhood House Network forms an integral support network across Tasmania at the heart of local communities.

At the Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania annual conference today, I launched the updated Neighbourhood House framework, “Achieving, Belonging, Celebrating, Doing – Community Development in Action” which will guide the network over the next five years.

The framework covers four broad goals – Connect Community; Support People; Create Opportunity; and Local Leadership.

Our Neighbourhood Houses promote social inclusion, support the delivery of important programs, and link people to health and other vital services in 35 communities across Tasmania.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is proud to support Neighbourhood Houses, and in the State budget increased core funding to each House by $45,000 per annum, committed a further $2 million for capital upgrades, and $150,000 over two years for grant funding to allow communities to improve staff and volunteer safety.

For the first time, King Island’s Phoenix House will receive recurrent funding as a Remote Community Neighbourhood House and it was great to officially welcome them to the network at the conference.

This is one more way we are working to make the lives of Tasmanians even better.
