Launch of inaugural George Town Stories Festival

Story telling has played an important role in society from the very beginnings of humankind, used to pass on important teachings, keeping track of history, or simply for entertainment.

Today I was pleased to officially launch the inaugural George Town Stories Festival.

The Festival runs at various venues in George Town from July until December, so there is no excuse for anyone wanting to attend one of the many events run over the duration of the festival.

The Festival is organised by the Future Impact Group, which was established in 2016 to develop and promote community owned and driven initiatives.

This Festival is a great example of industry, government, local government and the community working together to promote community pride, a sense of belonging and inclusiveness.

The Festival will highlight the talents of many local people as well as providing new experiences to community members.

The aim of the Festival is to use the medium of story-telling to broaden people’s understanding of different ways of telling and sharing stories, raise awareness of literacy forms across age groups, and ensure the voices of children and young people are heard.

Further information on the Festival can be found on its Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/storiesfestivalgeorgetown/
