Launch of educational game provides new opportunities

The Hodgman Liberal Government’s support for Tasmania’s screen education and entertainment sectors has resulted in the launch of a landmark Tasmanian-designed educational game called The Voyage.

The online multi-player game was designed and jointly developed by Hobart-based multimedia production company Roar Film and the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM).

The Tasmanian Government through Screen Tasmania supported the development with an $80,000 production equity investment in conjunction with Screen Australia.

The Voyage is based entirely on historically accurate facts and will bring history to life in a way that will engage primary school students throughout Australia and the world.

Its target audience is primarily students from year’s five and six, with the players responsible for hiring, provisioning and navigating their ship on a sea voyage to the other side of the world.

With Tasmanian’s youth increasingly using technology for educational and entertainment purposes, this launch represents enormous opportunities for both the Tasmanian screen education and entertainment sectors in the fast-growing area of educational games.

The Voyage is free for anyone to try and is available from the ANMM website at http://www.anmm.gov.au/learn/voyage-game.
