Launceston Supreme Court works to begin

Upgrades to the Launceston Supreme Court are moving ahead, with tenders now open for the redevelopment.

The work will involve the redevelopment of the correctional cell area, work spaces, office accommodation and staff amenities, and is expected to be worth more than $500,000.

Delivering on our commitment in July, Correctional Officers assumed the prisoner escort and security responsibilities at the Court to allow Tasmania Police officers to return to duties in the community.

The upgrade will improve safety and security, including CCTV and fire safety systems, ensuring the building meets current standards.

Amenities for staff will also be improved, providing a modern working environment.

These upgrades are another example of the Hodgman Liberal Government working hard to build for the future and improve the lives of all Tasmanians.

Work is expected to be completed during the summer recess, ready for next year’s Court sittings.
