Latest data reveals elective surgery waiting list at new record low

The  latest DHHS Dashboard confirms that more Tasmanians are benefiting from the Hodgman Liberal Government’s record investment in health, with the elective surgery waiting list at a new record low.

The new data relates to April-June 2017, the highlights include:

  • The elective surgery waiting list is at a new record low
  • More patients are being admitted for elective surgery within clinically recommended timeframes
  • The number of people on the outpatient waiting list has decreased, as has the average wait time
  • Ambulance emergency response times have gone down, and
  • There has been an improvement in performance indicators relating to emergency departments.

Significantly, these improvements have been made despite an increase in hospital activity and ED presentations.

While these results are encouraging, there is always more to do.

We made a commitment to restore services and ensure more people got the care they needed sooner.

It’s why we’ve employed more than 250 extra nurses and why we’re opening more than 120 additional hospital beds across the state.

As part of our Plan to Build Your Future, a re-elected majority Liberal Government will set ambitious new targets for health because we want to see even more Tasmanians getting their surgery sooner or the care they need in the ED more quickly.

We are a government that genuinely wants to make a difference in people’s lives and we will continue to prioritise investments in health.
