The Hodgman Liberal Government believes that the opportunity to participate in sport and team representation is an important for people with disability.
We are proud to have supported the AFL Inclusion Carnival played in Launceston this week and concluded with the Division 1 grand final at UTAS Stadium today.
The Carnival has brought together footballers with an intellectual disability from all the states and territories and it was my pleasure to cheer on players in today’s grand final and present the trophy to the winner.
In addition to the matches this week, players participated in education sessions and football clinics at local schools for special students.
The AFL is to be congratulated for organising this Carnival as part of its commitment to building opportunities to play Australian football.
The Carnival has been a great opportunity to showcase the skills of these players with a disability and to give them the proud moment of pulling on their state or territory representative jumper.
Congratulations to all of the players, officials, administrators and spectators who have participated and supported this week’s Carnival and we hope our visitors enjoyed their time in Tasmania.
