Labor’s solution to throw good money after bad in an attempt to keep TOOL afloat is a perfect example of how their economic mismanagement wrecked the Budget.
The Hodgman Liberal Government honoured it’s commitment of $270,000 funding last financial year. An audit of TOOL’s finances earlier this year showed their financial management, reporting systems and processes needed to be reviewed. They were given until October to fix these issues and assured the Government in July it would be rectified.
On that basis, we advanced them $67,500 last month. Less than two weeks later, we were advised there was no money left and they had gone into voluntary administration.
By taking the course of action we have, more than $200,000 in taxpayer money has been saved and is quarantined for further youth training.
Labor’s solution of throwing good money after bad highlights their fiscal incompetence.
The Hodgman Liberal Government remains committed to implementing an effective suite of programs to work with young people and divert them from the criminal justice system. Tenders for the Back On Track program have now closed and are being assessed, with an announcement to be made in the near future.
