Labor's political games help no one

Sarah Lovell’s disingenuous and tacky political point scoring attempt should be called out for what it is.

While the Labor party continues whingeing, the Hodgman majority Liberal Government is focused on delivering its plan to build a better health system, backed by a record $8.1 billion investment over four years, more frontline staff and significant infrastructure upgrades.

As Minister for Health, Tasmanians had strong representation from our State at an event as important as the COAG health council meeting. This was an opportunity to ensure Tasmania was involved in important discussions including:

• Developing a framework for a National Medical Workforce Strategy to ensure high quality of care is available to all Australians – no matter where they live;
• Support for an improved national mental health system; and
• Improvements to palliative care.

Labor is always happy to oppose and cast doubt on initiatives put up by the Government, but have no policies of their own and can’t be taken seriously – they have no economic plan they can point to, and never say what they would do differently.

Since coming to Government we have been progressing our plan to build a better health service, including:

• The $689 million redevelopment of the RHH;
• The $87 million redevelopment of the LGH;
• $125 million for ambulance services, including resources for our regions and aeromedical services; and
• 1150 additional health staff, including over 600 more nurses, 200 more doctors and 92 paramedics.

We recognise there is more work to be done and that is why our focus is delivering our Plan for Tasmanians and making the investments Tasmanians need and deserve.
