The Building and Construction sector is clearly booming under the Hodgman Liberal majority Government, with the latest ABS figures released today confirming that Tasmania continues to lead the nation in building approvals.
In the year to July 2018, there were close to 3000 dwelling approvals in Tasmania, an average of 248 per month. This was up 31.6 per cent on the previous year, the strongest growth in the nation. This is 46 per cent above Labor’s last year in Government, where the number of dwelling approvals averaged 170 per month.
At the same time, the total value of buildings approved in the year to July 2018, increased by 38.7% compared to the previous year, which was also the highest growth rate in Australia.
Despite the fantastic outlook, the ALP State Council motion proposing a tax on labour hire companies is a threat to the industry’s success.
The motion proves Labor does not understand business and is willing to wreck the economy to appease its union masters.
As a result of their incompetence, Labor would undermine construction, mining and civil contraction in Tasmania.
I call on the opposition leader to reject this tax on business and to reject regulations designed to kill legitimate businesses who support the growth in Tasmania’s economy.
