Labor wrong again on legal costs

It’s not surprising that a Labor opposition with no policies and no plans would finish the Parliamentary year with yet another stunt and more incorrect claims.

Tasmanian taxpayers will not pay one cent of the costs of Mr Brooks’ legal affairs.

The conditional grant of indemnity, provided prior to the Integrity Commission providing its draft report, was granted on the basis that money paid was repayable by Mr Brooks if the findings of the Integrity Commission revealed that he had not acted in good faith.

In respect of the provision of an indemnity the Government instructed the Solicitor-General to prepare terms that would ensure that money was recoverable if the Integrity Commission report revealed that Mr Brooks had not acted in good faith.

Mr Brooks has agreed to reimburse the Government for the amount paid to date, and not claim any further costs.

It is appropriate that he reimburse the Government for the costs of his legal affairs.
