In his budget reply speech tomorrow, Opposition Leader Bryan Green must outline exactly how he will pay for the hundreds of millions of dollars of policy commitments he has made since the election.
Labor hasn't learned from their election defeat and if given the chance would once again drive Tasmania's budget deep into the red once again.
For example, Labor wants to tip $40 million a year into Forestry Tasmania to prop it up and is completely opposed to all of the Government’s savings measures, even though these savings measures are the only reason why Tasmania’s budget will be back in surplus next year.
If Labor’s disastrous job-destroying deficit plan was ever implemented, the budget surplus would vanish overnight, the State’s finances would be thrown into chaos and Tasmania would go back to spending more than it earns and having to live off the credit card indefinitely, just like it was the last time Labor and the Greens were in Government.
It’s little wonder Labor refuse to produce an alternative budget, because it would highlight that you simply cannot trust Labor with money.
