Labor supports Government position on King Island

The Hodgman Liberal Government is absolutely committed to ensuring the King Island community has access to a high quality and reliable freight service.

That is why the Government has asked TasPorts to investigate the possibility of a new purpose-built ship for the King Island community, and it is welcoming to see Labor support this in their so called ‘economic direction statement’.

As I have previously indicated, funds for this will come from TasPorts as the owner of the Bass Island Line, not the Government – which is why there is no specific allocation in our Budget.

However, for Labor to pretend $8 million will be enough to construct a new ship and build a new port on King Island is fanciful.

It’s yet another Labor promise that they can’t keep and merely adds to their black hole of uncosted, unfunded promises.
