Labor shows its true colours

The Tasmanian Government makes no apology for taking strong action to protect people from the scourge of drugs and violence.

The Police Offences Amendment (Prohibited Insignia) Bill 2018 is set to be debated next week in Parliament, and already Labor are saying they won’t support it.

Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs are involved in a wide range of serious crime, such as drug trafficking, money laundering, extortion, firearms and drugs offences and high level violence.

The Bill will prohibit the display of insignia “colours” that promotes criminal associations and causes fear in the community.

Ignoring the advice of Tasmania Police, Police Association and the impact on victims of crime, Labor has shown it’s soft on crime, siding with criminals instead of the community once again.

Labor has a track record of being soft on crime, they have blocked important reform such as Mandatory Sentencing for Serious Sexual Offences Against Children, Mandatory Sentencing for Assaults on Frontline Workers and Mandatory Sentencing for Assaults on Off-Duty Police.

Having successfully restored police numbers by 113, after Labor’s savage cuts, we have committed to recruiting an additional 125 Police Officers over this term of Government which will help strengthen Tasmania’s response to the problems posed by drugs and violence in our community.

In contrast, Labor have learnt nothing from their election defeat and will vote against key legislation for no reason other than pure political self-interest.
