Labor ignoring the facts on energy relief

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has taken strong action to provide electricity customers with support during the COVID-19 pandemic, including a power price decrease from 1 July 2020.

Aurora Energy is also investing $5 million to assist customers with bill relief, waiving fees or charges, and a range of other support measures, which is on top of the $45 million electricity concession scheme regarded as one of the most generous schemes in the nation.

I understand there is over $4 million left in this fund and If anyone is struggling with their bills, I urge them to contact Aurora as soon as possible so their situation can be properly assessed. Aurora can be contacted through their customer service centre on 1300 13 2003 Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.

David O’Byrne can ignore the facts all he likes, but continually playing politics on this issue is helping no one but himself and his own leadership aspirations.

We will continue to monitor the impacts on energy users arising from COVID-19 to ensure Tasmanians are supported through this challenging time.

We are also supporting Tasmanian businesses that support the thousands of family members that depend on them for income with approximately 34,000 small businesses benefiting from the electricity bill waiver at a cost of up to $27 million, as well as a new $1,000 grant for customers in embedded networks that is now available.
