Labor doubles-down on school closure plan

Labor has today doubled-down on their plan to unwind our successful 7-12 school extension program with Michelle O'Byrne's latest attack.

The fact is, schools which have extended to year 12 have already produced positive results, with a 57 per cent increase in enrolments at participating schools since 2014, and an improvement in our apparent retention rates now up to 74 per cent, up from a low 67 per cent under the previous Government.

This year, another 18 schools will extend, bringing the total of extension schools to 30.

We know that Labor is ideologically opposed to our Plan to extend high schools through to Year 12 and would scrap the entire program if they had their way.

Labor has no credibility when it comes to education – in government they tried to close 20 schools and now they want to rip years 11 and 12 out of regional schools, which would do massive damage to the future of students in regional Tasmania.

In relation to the review into 9-12 education, a report was received just prior to Christmas. The final report will be released in due course, once it has been considered by the Government.
