Labor Continues to Blow in the Breeze on RET

The Liberal Government is continuing to advocate for a Renewable Energy Target that rewards Tasmania's hydro generation investments and protects Tasmanian jobs.

In stark contrast, Bryan Green and the Tasmanian Labor Party have taken too long to decide whether they support the Greens, or Hydro Tasmania and Tasmanian jobs.

For months we have been calling for Labor to support our push for a pro-Tasmanian outcome that recognises the vital role hydro energy plays in reducing emissions. For months Bryan Green has refused to confirm a position, either on the target or on the full exemption for Tasmania's major industrials.

Only now when their federal colleagues have already walked away from negotiations does Bryan Green finally say something about the RET.

By staying silent when he actually had a chance to convince federal Labor to support Tasmania, Bryan Green passed up the one chance he will have for four years to be relevant.

However, his highly belated recognition that the Tasmanian Liberal Government has been right all along to call for proposals which reward Hydro energy should be a wake-up call to Tasmanian Labor Senators.

All sides of politics need  to get on board to provide certainty over the RET, and to recognise and reward Tasmania's generation of clean, renewable Hydro energy.

Let's hope Bryan Green and Labor haven't changed their position again by tomorrow.
