Labor backflip on forestry overdue, but welcome

We welcome Labor’s support for our policy of special species harvesting in the TWWHA.

It’s unfortunate that Labor didn’t recognise the need to support this key sector when they abandoned it during the job-destroying Tasmanian Forest Agreement, however it’s better late than never.

We think specialty timbers is an iconic industry of Tasmania, it’s a very traditional one, and we want to make sure that we’re in a position to secure a sustainable resource into the future.

We have indicated through our draft management plan that we want to deal with the sensitive issue of the special species timber sector and it’s pleasing that work will continue with Labor’s support.
