Labor back in bed with the Greens on cable car

Comments in today’s Mercury* show that Labor has walked away from supporting a cable car on kunanyi/Mt Wellington and is getting back into bed with the Greens.

The Government absolutely supports a cable car, which is why we have developed legislation to enable a development application to be considered by the Hobart City Council.  The proposed laws will not change the need for any cable car proposal to get all the necessary approvals, including protecting Tasmania’s natural environment, heritage and Aboriginal cultural values and it’s difficult to see how Labor could oppose such basic changes.

Rebecca White’s reluctance to support sensible legislation like this shows that she is an inexperienced leader, with a disunited party.  Ms White is clearly trying to have a bob each way and is obviously considering supporting the Greens’ anti-everything approach to development in Tasmania.
