Labor have signalled yet again they will use their voting block in the Legislative Council to side with criminals.
Off-duty police officers should have the same protection that exists for on-duty as there are no circumstances at all in which police officers should be targeted and assaulted because of their job.
It is clear some individuals may feel malice towards police officers, either individually or generally, and the proposed amendment will ensure zero tolerance applies with guaranteed jail time for these criminals.
For Labor to say they will block this legislation is a disgusting slap in the face to our hard-working police officers- even more so after they, in coalition with the Greens, savagely cut 100 police officers from the frontline during the last Government.
It comes after they voted against mandatory jail time for child sex offenders, those who assault frontline workers, and those convicted of evading police for the third time.
It confirms once again they simply don’t get it when it comes to community safety- they are soft on crime.
