Labor - soft on crime, now soft on drugs

At their state conference on the weekend, Labor will vote to officially adopt a new "soft on drugs" agenda which would make the Greens blush.

As part of their proposed new platform, Labor is proposing to adopt an illicit drugs policy "which shows a firm commitment to harm minimisation practice, and commits to strengthening and expanding existing harm minimisation measures."

If that's not enough, the new Platform speaks favourably of "re-opening the debate on prohibition."

Labor also want to establish a parliamentary inquiry "to investigate the reform of laws relating to illicit drugs as a matter of urgency."

What's significant about this is these changes aren't just motions brought forward by branch members for discussion, they are part of the proposed new Labor Platform.

And under Labor Party rules, all elected members of Parliament are bound to vote for the Platform.

Labor just don't get it. Drugs like ice are a scourge on our community, and their use needs to be eradicated, not normalised as they are now proposing.
