Keeping Tasmanians safe through enhanced emergency communication

A Request for Tender is being released today for a Tasmanian Government Radio Network (TasGRN), which is part of the Hodgman Majority Liberal Government’s commitment to keep Tasmanians safe.

This will provide enhanced communication between key organisations, which is vital in responding to emergency events.

The network will facilitate interoperability between Tasmania Police, Tasmania Fire Service, Ambulance Tasmania, State Emergency Service, Parks and Wildlife Service, Sustainable Timber Tasmania, TasNetworks and Hydro Tasmania.

This is an important step towards Tasmania moving to a single P25-compliant radio network, bringing the state into line with emergency service communication standards used across Australia and around the world.

The TasGRN Project will replace the five separate networks currently in use by user organisations with a single digital P25-compliant radio network.

Our targets to keep Tasmanians safe include:

  • Having the lowest serious crime rate in the nation across all victimisation measures by 2022.
  • Having the lowest use of crystal methamphetamine (ice) of any state by 2022.
  • Reducing the number of deaths and serious injuries on Tasmania’s roads to zero by 2050.
  • Decreasing the risk to Tasmanian lives and properties from bushfire by 33% by 2022.
