The average Tasmanian household struggling with the cost of living will save nearly $550 under the Liberal’s Plan to take over Taswater.
Under the Labor/Taswater do-nothing approach, water and sewerage prices are forecast to rise by five percent each year for the next six years.
In contrast, under our Plan, we will cut price increases to no more than 3.5 percent.
We don’t believe it is acceptable to have 25 towns on boil water or do not consume alerts, sewage spills seven times the national average and only one of 78 sewerage treatment plant compliant with EPA standards.
What’s worse, not only will it take 10 years to fix this unless we take over, Tasmanians are forecast to pay 30 per cent more for water over the next six years for a second rate service.
Additionally, the Government is ensuring that all payment concessions will remain in place and by guaranteeing financial returns to councils, there will be no need for threatened rate increases under our Plan.
All of this means a faster and fairer solution for Tasmania’s second rate water and sewerage infrastructure, additional jobs for 1000 Tasmanians during the construction phase and a much better deal for those vulnerable Tasmanians counting every dollar.
Tasmanians expect their Government to act in the best interests of all Tasmanians in terms of solving this problem quickly and keeping prices down – it is in complete contrast to Labor’s do-nothing approach.
