Tasmania Police will be out in force this holiday season with Operation Crossroads again targeting dangerous driving behaviours.
We want everyone to have a safe and happy festive season and stay safe on our roads.
This is the time of year when people are driving to and from Christmas parties, functions and family events, which means more vehicles on our roads and lots of distractions.
The Government takes road safety extremely seriously and our message is clear – if you are drinking, don’t drive. Alcohol was a contributing factor in about 20 per cent of fatalities over the past five years.
While there were zero fatalities last Christmas period, there were seven serious injuries on our roads.
To help ensure a safe Christmas and New Year for Tasmania’s road users, police will be conducting Operation Crossroads from December 21 to January 1, focusing on the ‘Fatal Five’ contributors to road deaths:
As part of the operation, police will be conducting random breath tests and speed enforcement operations at various locations all around the state.
We urge motorists to be extra vigilant, drive responsibly, and have a safe and merry Christmas and New Year.
