kanalaritja: An Unbroken String documentary to premiere in Tasmania

On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, congratulations to all involved in the production of documentary film, kanalaritja: An Unbroken String, which will be premiered this evening.

Produced in partnership with Tasmanian production company Roar Film, kanalaritja: An Unbroken String tells the story of Tasmanian Aboriginal shell stringing.

kanalaritja: An Unbroken String marks the first collaboration between TMAG and Screen Tasmania to foster the creation and development of documentaries that explore the quintessentially unique stories of Tasmania, its culture and its history.

The luna tunapri workshops, funded by the Tasmanian Government through Arts Tasmania and in partnership with the Australia Council’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Board, informed the development of the kanalaritja: An Unbroken String exhibition.

This is a significant collaboration which draws on experience right across our cultural and creative industries and the Tasmanian Aboriginal community.

The exhibition is currently on display at the TMAG and will tour a further nine locations. A DVD of the documentary will be available for purchase at each location and on the TMAG website.

I encourage everyone who has not yet had the chance to see the kanalaritja: An Unbroken String exhibition at TMAG to visit before it starts touring after Sunday 21 May.
