Journey to the Tasmanian Heritage Festival

The Tasmanian Heritage Festival will draw thousands of visitors to the state next month with more than 300 events across the state.

With the theme Journeys, this year's annual festival will celebrate the unique experience the island state has offered to all forebears, migrants and travellers who've crossed Bass Strait.

The National Trust will again host the thought-provoking program of events, including walks, talks, discussions, exhibitions and museum openings.

The celebration of a bygone era will unfold against a backdrop of the contemporary attractions that have put Tasmania on the world map, including vineyards, breweries, distilleries and galleries.

It's through events such as the Tasmanian Heritage Festival that this Government will grow the tourism sector and reach the target of 1.5 million visitors by 2020.

These events can't happen without dedicated volunteers, whose time and enthusiasm is invaluable.

I congratulate the National Trust on such a diverse program and encourage Tasmanians and visitors to journey to the Tasmanian Heritage Festival this May.

For more information on the festival visit the National Trust website at www.nationaltrust.org.au/tasmania or phone 6344 6233.
