Jobs figure soars to record high under Hodgman Government

The Hodgman Government’s number one priority is jobs and today’s ABS employment figures show that we are well and truly delivering.

There are now more Tasmanians in work than at any other time in the State’s history.

Since the election, 8,400 jobs have been created and importantly, 2,300 of those jobs have been full time jobs.  In fact, in the month of May alone, 800 full time jobs were created.

Our unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been in six years and, pleasingly, the participation rate continues to rise as more Tasmanians look for work and find a job.

The Hodgman Government has focussed on creating the right environment for job creation, by reforming the planning system and simplifying the building code.  We’ve cut red and green tape and we have backed industry to get on with the job.  We’ve supported major projects like the Cradle Mountain development, the development of new university facilities in Burnie, Launceston and Hobart and the rebuild of the Royal Hobart Hospital.

But there is more to do.  That’s why we’ve rolled out an economic stimulus package available to all Tasmanian councils and that’s why we have rolled out a package to incentivise Tasmanian businesses to employ more apprentices, trainees and young Tasmanians.
