Jobs and investment injection for Macquarie Point just the tip of the iceberg

Minister for State Growth Matthew Groom today announced that the tender for demolition works at Macquarie Point has been issued.

“This is another step forward for Macquarie Point and will physically change the appearance of the site quite dramatically. Importantly, these works not only create activity on site – making way for the beginnings of the bold reset vision – but also demonstrate a commitment to investment and jobs at Macquarie Point,” Mr Groom said.

The tender is for the demolition of the one of the largest pieces of infrastructure at the site, the now redundant 0.64ha cold store on the corner of Davey and Evans Streets.

As well as the demolition and removal of the vacant building, an annexe at the rear of the Goods Shed and the removal of rail tracks including sleepers, spikes and fasteners are also be part of the works put out to tender. The disused rail will be retained by the Macquarie Point Development Corporation for future public uses. The rail corridor will be maintained in line with the Minister for Infrastructure’s instructions, for potential future use.

The value of the tendered works is projected to be in excess of $250 000 and is anticipated to engage a local engineering firm as well as skilled trades workers such as electricians, metal workers and plumbers.

“The job creation from these works foreshadow the significant boost that will be seen as the Macquarie Point development progresses,” Mr Groom said.

The works are scheduled to be completed by 31 October and the site will then be used for a range of site activation activities.
