Jetty Refurbishment Timely for National Champs

Today it is my great pleasure to announce the State Government is providing a $50,000 Community Infrastructure Fund (CIF) grant to the Montrose Bay Yacht Club for works to restore and develop the Montrose Bay public jetty.

The jetty is used by the Montrose Bay Yacht Club and Outrigger Canoe Club to support their on-water activities. In addition, the local rowing club will be able to utilise the facility pending the completion of repairs to their launching ramp.

Refurbishment to the jetty will include the addition of safety rails and a floating pontoon, which will be used to dock support and rescue boats, as well as to launch and retrieve radio yachts.

Recently, the Risdon Brook Radio Yacht Club (RBRYC) commenced conducting events at Montrose Bay and they will also make use of the jetty upon completion of the repairs.

The RBRYC welcomes the timely refurbishment as it is planned to use Montrose Bay facilities to host the upcoming Australian Radio Yachting Association 2018 National Championships (12-24 February 2018).

The Championships will attract over 100 competitors from around Australia and up to 20 international competitors, and cover four International radio yacht classes.

Montrose Bay is a world-class facility for yachting, especially for radio yachts. This event will showcase radio yachting in Tasmania, and the picturesque location provides an excellent opportunity to promote our State to both interstate and international visitors.
