Japan meetings

I've held a number of successful meetings with Japanese companies to discuss and promote Tasmania's wood trade with Japan.

These companies have welcomed the Liberal Government's ongoing policy commitment to growing Tasmania's forest industry, FSC certification, and the fact that I was able to confirm that wood will continue to be supplied only from forests already agreed to be "non-contentious" by the Greens and ENGOs.

These companies also very clearly understand and appreciate that Tasmania now has a strong, majority Government which is focused on trade, investment and jobs, and which unlike the former government is not captive to the Greens.

As it is likely that the Greens and various environmental groups will continue to misrepresent our forestry policy both domestically and overseas over the coming months, it is now very important that the Labor Party abandon their confused politicking on forestry, accept the will of the Tasmanian people, and support our sensible and balanced Plan.

A return to a bipartisan forestry policy is in the best interests of our forest industry, and of Tasmanian jobs.
