Irresponsible Labor playing politics with child protection

Labor has today irresponsibly encouraged industrial action that flies in the face of the needs of our most vulnerable children and that is at odds with the decision of the independent umpire, the Tasmanian Industrial Commission.

How uncaring is Ms White that she would rather support the real opposition in the union movement than the vulnerable children in our child protection system?

After 16 years of Labor and Labor-Green governments, Tasmania was left with a broken system, with caseloads a known issue for 10 years or more.

This is why this Government has already increased agreed staffing levels, as we, unlike the previous Labor-Green government, are actually working to address the long-standing issues we inherited, including that staff and management work through an independently facilitated process to reach a mutually agreed conclusion to this dispute.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has committed to redesigning our child protection system, and that work is underway, which will feed into the 2016-17 Budget process.
