I am pleased to invite organisations that provide legal services, undertake legal research or raise community awareness of the law in Tasmania to apply for a grant from the Solicitors’ Guarantee Fund.
While the principal purpose of the Solicitors' Guarantee Fund is to compensate clients who suffer losses due to the misbehaviour of their lawyer, the Attorney-General may call for applications for grants from the Fund if it is in surplus.
With the fund now in surplus and the new processes to assure the proper use of funds now in place, applications for grants from the Fund are now invited.
Applications should be for an activity that is in addition to services or projects already undertaken by the organisation, and priority will be given to applications that will achieve any of the following outcomes:
Applications must be in writing and explain why the organisation is seeking funding, demonstrating how the activity will achieve one or more of the outcomes listed above.
The application must include a clear, detailed, accurate and complete budget for the activity, as well as relevant timeframes and evidence to demonstrate that the organisation has the ability to complete the activity.
Successful applicants will be required to enter into a grant deed arrangement as an accountability measure.
Full details of the application process will be advertised in the Public Notices section of The Mercury, The Examiner and The Advocate newspapers this weekend.
Applications should be marked ‘Personal and Confidential’, and addressed to:

Applications close on Monday 25 July 2016.
