The Tasmanian screen industry continues to thrive the under Hodgman majority Liberal Government with record investments in both film and television production.
In 2018/19 alone we, through Screen Tasmania, invested a record $1.4 million across five projects, which is estimated to have generated $10 million for the economy during production and employed almost 150 Tasmanian cast and crew members.
We are a passionate supporter of our budding screen practitioners, which is why we are committing close to $25,000 to help emerging Tasmanian filmmakers to further their careers.
Through Screen Tasmania’s Industry Development program we are providing Wide Angle Tasmania with funding to support its work in 2020.
Wide Angle has a long history of supporting and nurturing screen practitioners and has a proven record in paving the career paths of many Tasmanian filmmakers.
The funds will be used for a variety of programs and initiatives such as masterclasses from senior Australian film industry members, career coaching and peer support measures and business mentoring for Tasmanian screen businesses.
The grant will also allow local filmmakers to attend selected short courses at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School for areas of identified skills shortage.
This new funding will formalise the collaborative relationship between Screen Tasmania and Wide Angle, further encouraging and building the capacity of our local film industry.
Continuous high-quality productions generate jobs, investment and skill retention and development here in Tasmania. By investing additional funding in key projects and innovation, we also guarantee these benefits continue into the future.
