Work is beginning today to seal key sections of Bruny Island Main Road as part of the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s $8 million package to improve road safety on the island.
Bruny Island is one of Tasmania’s key tourism destinations and our Government is committed to improving safety and further enhancing the visitor experience at this popular location.
As part of this $8 million package, the Hodgman majority Liberal Government Government has granted $1.5 million to Kingborough Council to implement key recommendations from the Bruny Island Destination Action Plan and the Bruny Island Liveability Study.
Work includes sealing Main Road between Alonnah and Lunawanna to include improved drainage and reshaping sharp corners to make Bruny Island Main Road safer, and ensure this popular tourism road meets the needs and expectations of visitors and locals.
Work is expected to be complete in early 2020.
The Government has invested a record $3.6 billion in infrastructure across the 2019-20 State Budget. This includes $1.6 billion invested into crucial transport infrastructure across the state.
