Investing in a safer Tasmania

The Hodgman Liberal Government is Building Tasmania’s Future by investing in a safer Tasmania.

That is why we have invested $3.75 million for three new firefighting aerial appliances, commonly known as snorkels, which will replace vehicles in the South, the North and the North-West.

Aerial appliances are equipped with an aerial boom and platform, designed to raise firefighters to heights to enable them to rescue people or to tackle blazes in tall buildings.  While the current aerial appliances have served Tasmania well, they are now over 40 years old and it is past time they were replaced by newer technology that will further enhance firefighting capability and increase community safety.

Of course, fires in the home can have devastating consequences and the best outcome for everyone is for them not to occur in the first place.

Fire prevention tips can be found on the TFS website, and I strongly urge every Tasmanian to take a look to ensure they are doing everything possible to keep their home safe.

The tips can be found here: http://www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colHomeFireSafety.
