International Visitor Survey confirms tourism’s importance

The plan for tourists to stay longer, spend more and travel further around the state is working according to the latest International Visitor Survey results.

The IVS released today from Tourism Research Australia, shows international visitor expenditure in Tasmania has skyrocketed by an impressive 21 per cent on the previous year, totalling $552 million.

Our international visitors are also staying longer than ever before, with the average stay reaching 17 nights.

Visitors from key international markets all increased, including China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Japan and France.

In total, 307,000 international visitors came to Tasmania in the year ending June 2018, up 21 per cent.

On percentage terms, our growth in international visitors numbers outstripped the rest of the nation, demonstrating Tasmania’s popularity on the world stage.

By working closely with our great tourism industry, this latest report shows we are in fact taking tourism to the next level.
