International Beer Day

On International Beer Day, what better way to celebrate an amber liquid than kicking back and having a cold one with some mates.

Tasmania has a long history with brewing and we have developed a reputation of producing some of the best in Australia with Boag’s and Cascade, as well as some of the finest craft beers.

While large producers Boag’s and Cascade have long histories within Tasmania, there are also at least 20 small craft breweries dotted around the state.

Through the TasTAFE Microbrew Festival, we are producing the next generation of brewers and the Tasmanian Beer Trail is allowing locals and tourists to enjoy the best brews the state has to offer.

The Tasmanian Beer Trail, which is supported by the Hodgman Liberal Government, promotes the small local brewers through a website guide and social media.

Tasmania also supplies the majority of Australia’s hops, with Bushy Park Estates producing hops for more than 150-years, making it one of the oldest operating hop farms in the world.

Nationally speaking, 93 per cent of all beer sold is brewed in Australia and supports the full-time jobs of almost 90,000 Australians and generates $15.3 billion in economic activity, or about 1 per cent of GDP.

The Hodgman Government is a proud supporter of this industry, which supports local Tasmanian jobs and the economy, and has a positive impact for our tourism industry, with people coming to sample our fine quality beers.

Enjoy in moderation.
