Infrastructure Australia report suggests water prices could double under the current ownership structure

The majority Hodgman Liberal Government makes no apologies whatsoever for seeking to intervene to keep water prices down.

This follows the release of the Infrastructure Australia report into water and sewerage infrastructure which clearly shows that water and sewerage bills could double without action.

That’s simply unacceptable.  Under the Hodgman Government’s plan to take over TasWater, we will cap price increases as low as 2.75 percent, compared to the forecast doubling in prices by Infrastructure Australia.

Jacking up water bills to unsustainable levels is not good management, it’s a recipe for disaster for thousands of households around Tasmania that simply will not be able to afford these increases.

I also want to reiterate that we absolutely reject and will not implement Infrastructure Australia’s suggestion that TasWater be privatised.

Unfortunately, Labor supports higher water and sewerage prices and will stand back and let TasWater take more and more out of the pockets of Tasmanians.

At the election a vote for Labor will be a vote for higher water and sewerage bills, while a vote for the Liberals will be a vote for lowering water and sewerage bills.
