Industrial Commission Hearing

We are pleased that the unions at today's Industrial Commission hearing recognised that the Government has a right to implement policies aimed at improving Tasmania's education outcomes.  The unions concede it was not a decision they could contest industrially.

As we have said, we are superseding the Guaranteeing Futures program, which was gutted by the previous Labor Government, with a new, K-12 approach to career education, backed up by contemporary research.

The Education Department said before today's hearing that it would naturally consult with affected employees and this was always the intention and we stand by that. The hearing before the TIC was adjourned to allow meetings scheduled for next week to proceed.
