INCAT announcement highlights Tasmania’s competitive strengths

Today’s announcement that Incat Tasmania has secured a large ship building contract for Danish company Mols-Linien A/S is another vote of confidence in the iconic company, its workforce and the State economy.

This contract secures an expanded workforce at the Hobart shipyards for another two years and is the latest in a string of successes for the company.

Just last month Sydney Ferries announced it will purchase six new ferries from Incat, added to four new Incat ferries for Manly Fast Ferries, and two bound for the River Thames in England

The eyes of the world are on Tasmania and we are backing our competitive strengths in advanced manufacturing and maritime industry.

Tasmanian manufacturing expertise is recognised and valued across Australia and the world and there are a number of world-class Tasmanian manufacturing companies which have tremendous capability in shipbuilding and repair services.

The Tasmanian Government is actively supporting the TasPac tender to replace Australia’s Pacific patrol boats and the Elphinstone Group and Team Sentinel’s bid for a share of the Commonwealth’s $10 billion LAND 400 project, which would benefit businesses right around the State.

We want to see Tasmania secure a larger share of national defence spending, to support economic growth and create jobs across our state. This week the Tasmanian Government will join local companies, including Incat Tasmania, Liferaft Systems Australia, CBG Systems, Taylor Brothers, Pivot Maritime International, Muir Windlasses and the Australian Maritime College, at the Pacific 2015 International Maritime Exposition in Sydney.

This event will also provide an opportunity to meet with Thyssen Krupp Marine Systems Australia and UGL, who are leading the Tasmanian Pacific Patrol Boat bid along with INCAT and Haywards Steel.

The Tasmanian Government is already actively promoting opportunities and assisting businesses interested in the Defence sector and we remain committed to supporting this sector and ensuring our companies are best positioned to tender for work supporting this build.
