Inaugural Women in Sport Coaching Scholarship

Two leading Tasmanian coaches have been awarded the inaugural 2018-19 Women in Sport Coaching Scholarship designed to develop the next generation of female coaches in the State.

This year's recipients are, Janelle Smith, a Level 2 Road and Track Coach, former WNBL basketballer and State League netballer, and Wenonah Sharman, an accredited Exercise Physiologist with University qualifications in psychology as well as being a Level 2 accredited Athletics Australia Coach.

The Women in Sport Coaching Scholarship is a partnership between Womensport and Recreation Tasmania Inc. and the Tasmanian Institute of Sport.

The scholarship provides financial and mentoring support to develop an individual’s coaching capability, leadership skills and valuable national experience. Each recipient is awarded $5,000.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to supporting more women in leadership, as well as making Tasmania the healthiest state in the nation by 2025.
