A major upgrade of the iconic Heritage Landing experience as part of the Gordon River cruise has been successfully completed.
The $800,000 project was funded through the Government's Tourism Infrastructure Fund and completed by Devonport-based Company AJR Construct.
The Tourism Infrastructure Fund directs funding to maintain and enhance visitor experiences in our beautiful national parks, and helps these special places realise their full tourism potential.
Two jetties were refurbished and the entire boardwalk was rebuilt as part of the project. The boardwalk has been rebuilt with a wider path to make it more accessible for mobility impaired visitors.
Funding sustainable, unique tourism experiences like Heritage Landing supports the Government’s Plan of making Tasmania a premier tourist destination, and we have set the target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to our State by 2020.
The rainforest walkway is a highlight of the Gordon River cruise experience as visitors are able to have a firsthand experience of the dense rainforest and iconic rainforest species such as Huon pine, celery top pine, sassafras and others.
The Gordon River cruise is the major drawcard for visitors to the West Coast and Strahan, with 77,000 people enjoying a Gordon River cruise in 2016.
