Improving Educational Outcomes

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government is committed to lifting education outcomes and understands education is the passport to a better life.

Equity and inclusion are the heart of everything we do in education, this is demonstrated in our new nation-leading needs-based funding model for disability, which supports up to 2000 additional students.

Our ground-breaking Working Together initiative for three year olds, providing free pre-school for young children who wouldn’t normally engage in early learning programs also reflect this.

Having excellent teachers to support our students is one of the key predicators of educational outcomes, which is why we’re employing an extra 250 teachers.

Importantly, the extension of 47 Tasmanian high schools is already having a positive impact on attainment and retention with the TCE attainment improving by 10 per cent since we came to Government.

Packages of learning are an exciting new approach to keep individual students engaged with learning in years 9 and 10, and allow them to explore new pathways to vocational education and employment.

These are developed in partnership with industry groups, and are aligned to growth industries with five schools taking part last year.

We’ve increased funding and student places for TasTAFE and it’s clearly paying off, with apprenticeship and traineeship starts increasing by 9.7 per cent, against a downward trend nationally.

We are investing record amounts into education to keep students engaged in learning and improve education outcomes.

And soon, we’ll be launching our new Adult Learning Strategy, to provide more opportunities to participate in work and life, promote lifelong learning and build stronger communities.
