Improvements to the Tasmanian Community Fund

The Tasmanian Community Fund has a proud record in supporting and funding thousands of projects and vital community infrastructure.

The Government is committed to reducing the cost of all Government boards and committees to make them more efficient and more focused on the needs of Tasmanians.

The Government announced that it wanted the Tasmanian Community Fund to continue to provide support to the community, but under a new structure.  We have consulted widely on that announcement and as a result of that consultation we have decided that the size of the Fund's board will be reduced by one position.

All savings will be returned to the Fund for distribution to the community.  This change will save $60,000 over three years, that's $60,000 that will be reinvested in the community through the Fund.

The Fund will continue to be managed by an independent board with the best interests of the community in mind.

In addition to that, the Government is also considering changing the structure of the Fund to allow the independent Board to receive donations to boost the amount of money that can be distributed.  Under the current framework, donations are prohibited.  We believe that the Board should be able to accept donations and we will be asking the Board to consider this option and present the Government with recommendations early in 2015.

The Government is committed to ensuring that the Tasmanian Community Fund continues to provide valuable support to the community and becomes more efficient, stronger and financially secure for generations to come.
