Improved critical care facilities at RHH

The $1.2 million upgrade of the Royal Hobart Hospital’s Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) has been completed five weeks earlier than originally scheduled.

The DCCM is a crucial part of the hospital, hosting the Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit beds to provide the highest quality critical care to some of our sickest patients.

The works commenced in January and will provide improved facilities for staff and patients.

Key improvements resulting from the works include:

-        Replacement of the ceiling to reduce infection risks;

-        Installation of skylights to allow natural light within the Unit;

-        Installation of a new emergency communication speaker system;

-        Replacement of floor vinyl; and

-        Replacement of hand basins in each bedspace.

Other upgrades include the removal of the central bench to allow for more space within the clinical area and the installation of IT cabling to support better electronic record management.

I would like to thank the builders for completing the works ahead of schedule.

I thank all staff at the hospital, and in particular those who work in the DCCM, for their patience and support while the works occurred.
