Hybrid Energy Hub is a game changer for Flinders Island

The opening today of the Flinders Island Hybrid Energy Hub is a game changer for the Island.

The $13.38 million Hub is capable of displacing 60 per cent of the annual diesel fuel used to generate electricity on the Island and provide a more reliable and stable supply.

The Hub, which is only the third of its kind in the world, will also reduce carbon dioxide emissions because it runs on a combination of wind and solar, and when conditions are favourable it can produce enough power for the Island to run on 100 per cent renewable energy for long periods of time.

Congratulations to Hydro Tasmania for developing this world leading technology which has been funded with the support of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

Hydro Tasmania worked with Tasmanian manufacturers to develop and fabricate the modular containerised systems off-site before they were tested and shipped to Flinders Island.

The Hybrid Energy Hub reflects the best of Tasmanian ingenuity and, in addition to providing cleaner and more reliable power for Island residents, it will reinforce the clean image of Flinders Island produce and support the Island’s growing tourism industry.
