Huon Valley Meat Co a Tasmanian success story

There is nothing better than seeing young Tasmanians investing in Tasmania and reaping the rewards of being small business-owners.

Huon Valley Meat Co has been a fantastic success story, led by pioneering young businessman, James Lord and his team.

Today I was privileged to join the Premier who opened Huon Valley Meat Co’s latest business, a butchery and store in Huonville.

The new outlet in Huonville complements the existing West Hobart store and the Cradoc Hill abattoir.

The company is a great small business success story with James returning to the State in 2011 to rescue an abattoir set for closure.

Today he employs 13 people with plans for expansion in the works.

Not only is the new business a great show of confidence in our economy, it also supports local farmers and provides new employment.

There are 36,000 small businesses operating throughout the State and we’re keen to support continued growth in this important job-creating sector.

That’s why we’ve set our sights on new targets like a 10 per cent increase in small business employment by 2022.

We will continue to work to deliver a stronger economy so that more Tasmanians can follow in James’ footsteps.
