Huon Health

The Tasmanian Government is committed to reforming our health system and an important part of that work is helping communities get better health outcomes through supporting their own health and wellbeing.

Today, I am pleased to announce that the Government has reached a new arrangement with Huon Eldercare and the Huon Valley Council to support health and wellbeing in the Huon community.

$100,000 will be allocated each year for a fixed period of three years to support rural health and health and wellbeing priorities in tune with the needs of the community, as agreed to by the parties.

At the same time, the Government is working to deliver a new, overarching policy approach to preventative health, A Healthy Tasmania, which will change the way we manage preventative health for the benefit of all Tasmanians into the future.

A new Community Advisory Committee is also being created to give community members a say on the health needs and priorities of the Huon region. This model is successfully used in other Southern regional communities including Ouse, Oatlands and Tasman.

This arrangement replaces the former Huon Valley Health and Wellbeing Grants Program and Grants Committee. We wish to thank all of those who have given their time and effort to that initiative in previous years.
