Huge growth in engineering construction

The ABS has released today its engineering construction activity for the March 2019 quarter.

Over the year to March 2019 quarter, engineering construction work done, grew  24 per cent compared to the March 2018 quarter, in real trend terms, which was the highest growth rate in the nation. For context, all other jurisdictions in Australia declined over the year.

On a quarterly basis, engineering construction work done in Tasmania grew 3.7 per cent in the March 2019 quarter, which was again the highest growth rate in the nation.

The March 2019 quarter saw nearly $388 million in engineering construction work done, in real trend terms, which was the highest ever recorded in Tasmania since the series began in 1987. In the year to the March 2019 quarter, over $1.4 billion in work done was completed.

The 2019-20 State Budget looks to maintain the momentum and invests for growth, and the data released today clearly shows the engineering and construction sector in Tasmania continues to ramp up, to deliver on the Government’s ambitious $3.6 billion infrastructure plan over the next four years.
